- Lecturer- department of medical-surgical nursing and pre-clinical sciences (4position)
ABOUT THE ROLE
The lecturer will be responsible for designing, developing and producing learning and teaching material and delivering the content across a range of modules and within a subject area.
Senior Lecturer will ensure the efficient and effective delivery of teaching programmes in accordance with the University’s strategy, policy and procedures, contribute to activities which influence leading edge practice and also undertake research, consultancy and community activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Student teaching and evaluation
- Teaching/ lecturing students
- Setting, moderating exams, administering and giving feedback to the university and students according to the university guidelines
- Ensure the students have done course work as per the university guidelines
- Ensure modules are designed and delivered as per the university guidelines
- Ensure that the course work and assignment evaluation is done as per the university policy
- Keeping student records of achievement
- Research and scholarship
- Develop proposal for grants and do research.
- Supervision of student’s project/ research.
- Participate Seminars and workshop to disseminate the research output
- Present evidence studies in workshops, seminars and conference.
- Presenting research at conferences
- Mentorship
- Mentoring the Student and new colleagues in the department.
- Taking students for mentorship trips.
- Guide and advising weak students
- Pastoral care of students by supporting the students’ individual needs and care.
- Act as a personal tutor, provide support, advice and refer them to the appropriate services.
- Supervise, teach and evaluate students on clinical areas.
- Liaison and networking
- Participate in departmental meetings, conference and other events in and outside the university.
- Get placement for students
- Community outreach
- Organize community activities with the student in line with the university guidelines
- Evaluate the community activities with the students
- Support partnership and work with the community in line with the university policy
- A flexible approach to work
- Performing any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATION
- Earned PhD in any of these Nursing fields – Medical-Surgical / Mental Health Nursing / Paediatric / Oncology Nursing / Critical Care Nursing.
- A master’s degree in the relevant field from an accredited university.
- At least three (3) years of teaching experience at the University as a lecturer or six (6) years research/ industry experience.
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya
- A minimum of 3 publication points, of which at least 2 (2) in refereed journal papers.
- Must have supervised at least three (3) post-graduate students to completion as a lecturer equivalent.

JOB TITLE
- Clinical Instructor - School of Nursing and Midwifery (3 Position)
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Clinical Instructor should be aware at all times that his/her role is diffusing as manager/teacher/mentor.
The clinical instructor should strive to stimulate the student's interest in all aspects of clinical practice and encourage innovative thinking and approaches to practice.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Liaise with the Dean and HODs to get students approvals on Placements.
- Provide an orientation for the students to the clinical sites including schedules (days and hours), evaluation methods, and overall responsibilities.
- Support faculty with the development and upgrade the objectives and competencies for clinical skills logbook and assessments
- Review the student's portfolio in order to tailor activities based upon their previous exposure, goals and expectations, or areas of deficiency.
- Identify and assign appropriate activities and projects that are in alignment with the objectives and competencies for the clinical rotation to enhance student learning.
- Monitor student progress to ensure stated objectives are adequately addressed and met.
- Serve as a role model and mentor for Nursing and Midwifery students.
- Answer student questions and serve as a resource to enhance student understanding clinical related issues.
- Share acquired knowledge and skills with the student.
- Maintain student confidentiality and report any concerns or issues to faculty.
- Facilitate and/or seek interactions with the management and other health care professionals of clinical practice sites
- Assess student competence to identify strengths and address weaknesses. At a minimum, complete written and verbal mid- and final-rotation evaluations with the student to communicate student progress and address any areas of concern.
- Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree
- At least three (3) years of experience in a similar role.
- Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya in good standing.
- A master’s degree in the same field will be an added advantage
